knew Bonnie as a generous and thoughtful woman. She was quiet, but had a sharp wit about her. She loved her shoes, and had a pair of sneakers for every day of the week. As a grandmother to Sam and Sydney, she was unparalleled. She would spend hours crafting the perfect adventure or treasure hunt. When the children arrived at her house, they would find elaborate railroad throughout the living room for Sam's Thomas the Tank Engines. She shared her imagination and love of dolls with her granddaughter, Sydney, handcraft-ing one-of-a-kind dolls for herself and others. Easter would bring toys and treats around every corner. She was generous, kind, and loving, but most of all, fun. We honored Benga during an intimate ceremony with family and friends at Lawncroft Cemetery. It was simple, but graceful, just like she was. She leaves behind her husband Francis Bosze of Fairfield; daughter, Michelle and son-in-law, Sean Rossi of Milford; daughter, Kristine and son-in-law, Brett Ference of Danby, Vt.; step-children, Christoper and wife, Christina Bosze of Hamden, Lisa and husband, Mark MacNeil and their children, Christopher, Jimmy, and John of Simsbury; grandson, Samuel Jacob Rossi and granddaughter, Sydney Grace Rossi; and many friends and loved ones. Her daughter, Colleen, preceded her in death. If you would like to honor Benga's memory, we ask that you be sure you express you love to those dear to you. Benga's abrupt passing has taught us there is never enough time to tell someone how much they mean to you. We love you, Benga., |

CHURCHILL Mrs. Helen Knowles Churchill, died Thursday, March 19, 2009. She was 89. Funeral services will take place in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, June 19, 2009, with services starting at the Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel at 8:45 a.m. During her lifetime, Mrs. Churchill wore many hats -- wife, mother, nurse and captain in the Army Air Corps. Whatever she did, she did with full vigor and to the best of her ability and always seemed to end up "in charge," a characteristic that stood her in good stead as she raised her daughter and five sons. While she probably would be surprised to hear herself described as a pioneer, indeed, she was. Upon her retirement as a captain from the Army Air Corps following World War II, she was among the highest ranking women to have served in the armed services in World War II from her home state of Florida. Mrs. Churchill was born in Missoula, Mont., May 23, 1919 to Virgil Wesley Knowles and Mabel Odneal Knowles, and grew up in Miami, Fla. She became a registered nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital (now Jackson Memorial Medical Center) in Miami, and soon entered the Army Air Corps, where she served as a flight nurse during World War II, and was retired from service as a captain after being disabled. In 1946, she married the late William J. Churchill of Locust Gap, Pa., a major in the Army Air Corps, and with him raised six children, while they relocated the family three times as Mr. Churchill's job responsibilities changed. She retired as Director of Nursing at the Jewish Home for the Elderly of Fairfield, (at the time, a 240-bed nursing facility) in 1986. After her retirement, she moved to Melbourne, Fla. in 1987, where she served as a nursing and long term care consultant at the Indian River Colony Club. In 2001, she relocated to Oakland, Calif., and took up residence at the Salem Lutheran Home. Mrs. Churchill is survived by six children, William, Virginia, Thomas, Stephen, Paul, and Allen; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew; and two grand-nieces and two grand-nephews. Mrs. Churchill joined the Roman Catholic Church in 1947, and remained a member throughout the rest of her life. She was an active member of her local parish in the several cities in which her family lived. Donations in memory of Mrs. Churchill may be made to American Lung Association, National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004., |
